Cathedral Pews

In the newest part of our school you can find an object connecting us to our first, 16th century home.

These Victorian pews originate from Newcastle Cathedral, dating from around 1882 when St Nicholas’ Church became a cathedral. They were the front row pews on the left-hand side of the nave, where generations of brides would have sat on their wedding day.

RGS acquired the pews in late 2019 when Newcastle Cathedral was selling them ready for their big renovation project. They now provide a quiet spot for students to take a seat over breaktime.
