RGS performed scenes from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, on the 22nd and 23rd February 1909. 

The cast included Elsie Logan, daughter of RGS headmaster Samuel Charles Logan (Staff 1883-12), and Henry Harvey Evers (ON 1906-11), who went on to become a renowned gynaecological surgeon.

The performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's Yeomen of the Guard was held over three nights, 1st, 2nd and 3rd April 1918. 

This was a production by the boys of the Junior School, in aid of the Lord Mayor of Newcastle's War Relief Fund. It managed to raise £45, approximately £3400 in today's money.

According to RGS teacher AR Laws, "Never before had a Gilbert & Sullivan opera been performed entirely by boys of the age of 12½ years and under."

A production in French of three scenes from Sacha Guitry's play Pasteur was held at RGS on the 19th December 1922. This was in honour of the centenary of Louis Pasteur's birth, at the request of then headmaster ER Thomas (Staff 1922-48).

The performance included talks by two esteemed guests: the prologue was delivered by the French consul, Jacques Pigeonneau (1900-1967); and the epilogue by physician Sir David Drummond (1852-1932).

Aeschylus' Agamemnon: A Commentary on the Music, by S. Middlebrook (1932). RGS Archives

The production of the Greek tragedy, The Agamemnon of Aeschylus, was performed in the Main Hall 20th-22nd December 1932.

Agamemnon was a school-wide collaboration. Head of English AA Le M Simpson (Staff 1929-45) translated and adapted the play; music arranged by Chemistry teacher Humphrey Hare (Staff 1929-34) and Head of Music Arthur Milner (Staff 1926-48); a commentary on the music was produced by History teacher and Second Master Sydney Middlebrook (Staff 1918-50); and the scenery was designed by Head of Art Cecil Marfitt-Smith (Staff 1932-70)

A production of T.S. Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral by the XXI Club. Performed at the Penrith Playhouse, 8-11 February 1943, during the school's WWII evacuation. It was produced by teacher Mr Simpson (Staff 1929-45).

RGS student Walter S Wood (ON 1937-44) performed as the Third Priest in this production, collecting these photographs and the signed programme.
