A Close Shave

A Close Shave

It’s not often that a trip to the hairdressers is considered a particularly poignant moment. However, this was the case for Lower Sixth student David Nagaj last summer as he made the decision to part company with his stylish 60s quiff and shaved his head in the name of charity. David returned to the place where his mum had her head shaved after she was diagnosed with cancer several years ago and made the first move himself as the hairdresser handed him the clippers. A while later, with the floor (and David himself!) covered in hair, the job was done and David thanked everyone for their support, including his bandmates from indie band The Ilfords who had joined him on the day.

David’s bold move raised more than £1,300 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust, a fantastic achievement. His Just Giving page was so successful that he was in the top 5% of fundraisers on Just Giving in 2014.

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer.  David learned about Bone Cancer Research Trust through his bandmate and fellow RGS student Finlay Gerrand, whose father is a trustee of the charity.
