Amelia reaches Young Chorister of the Year final

Year 7 student Amelia Lewis sang her way into the hearts of thousands as she qualified for the BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year finals which were held on Wednesday 26th October at Manchester Cathedral.

Soprano Amelia, beat off competition from hundreds of applicants to make the finals, being the youngest of the four female competitors.

You can hear Amelia sing Faure's Pie Jesu and Amazing Grace via the Radio 2 broadcast.

Amelia, who sings with the Newcastle Cathedral choir, has won five awards already in 2016 including the Junior championship Trophy at the Darlington Festival for Performing Arts and the Most Promising Vocal Soloist aged 18 or under at the Tynedale Music Festival.

RGS is extremely proud of Amelia's achievements and we'll all be hoping to hear her perform at one of our concerts in the lead up to Christmas.
