Amelia swims her way into the British Championships

Talented swimmer, Year 9 student Amelia Robertson, swam her way into the British Summer Championships after winning two golds at the recent Swim England North East Regional Age Group Swimming Championships.

Amelia swims for Tynemouth ASC and specialises in the backstroke distances, although she does swim the other strokes as well.

After a solid couple of swims at the Swim England North East Regional Open Swimming Championships, the age group meet came at the right time for Amelia as she went about her quest of qualifying for the national event.

Amelia's first gold came in the 100m backstroke, which she won in 1.07.70, a full second ahead of the swimmer finishing second. This was one of the quickest times set this year and it also puts her 25th on the all-time list for her age.

Her second gold came in the quick, one length of the pool event: the 50m backstroke. Amelia touched in a time of 31.50 seconds, just ahead of her Tynemouth teammate who finished second.

These results and times mean Amelia qualified for the nationals and will compete in all three distances in backstroke. She'll be one of 24 competing to be named Britain's best in her age group.

Amelia will join fellow RGS student, Lola Davison (Year 10), who has also qualified for the event in July which will be held in Sheffield from 24th July.
