Charities Week

Charities Week

Once again, November saw the appearance of the annual RGS Charities Week: five days of frantic fundraising and digging deep for Charity. This year’s chosen charities were FACT (Fight All Cancers Together), Streetwise, Grace House and The Great North Children’s Hospital…

‘Start as you mean to go on’ – and we did, with lots of cake! On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, staff and students queued up in the Main Hall to buy delicious home-made treats from Year 7 students.

During Monday lunchtime, spectators flocked to the Sports Hall to watch the Staff vs. Students Netball Match. In a close-fought competition, the final result was a draw: 16-16.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Teaching Kitchen was a flurry of activity as eight enthusiastic bakers took part in The Great RGS House Bake-Off. Their task: to produce their own unique twist on a traditional Victoria Sponge.

It was a battle of knowledge on Thursday lunchtime as the Staff vs. Students University Challenge took place in the Lecture Theatre. Later that evening, a handful of students (plus a few brave members of staff!) took to the stage of The Miller Theatre to tread the catwalk in the RGS Fashion Show. The packed audience witnessed a professional show that raised an incredible £3783!

On Friday, students swapped their uniforms for more casual attire for non-uniform day and the lunchtime Rock Gig in the Main Hall saw a range of bands and performers playing to big audiences. Years 7 and 8 also took part in a sponsored Readathon all week, raising over £2500!

Money is still being counted but the total raised so far is more than £10,000! Well done to all the students for this fantastic effort and thank you to all parents for your on-going support with fundraising and your generosity.
