Chess team into national finals

The RGS chess team travelled to Yarm School for the North East qualifying round of the Team Chess Challenge recently where they competed against three Yarm teams in a bid to make it to the national finals.

The team of James Moreby (Year 10), Joseph Dalton (Year 12), Yichen Han (Year 5) and Zheming Zhang (Year 11) did a superb job in all three of their games, with each having 15 minutes on the clock per game. They won each game 4-0, giving them a perfect 12/12 scoreline.

The team will now compete at the national finals which will be held in London at the start of the summer term.

Prior to that, all four chess players will continue to play in a number of chess competitions so that they are fully prepared for the finals.
