China 2014

China 2014

Twenty-one students have just returned from the third RGS visit to China, spending twelve days in four cities. The cultural monuments were as awesome and astounding as the reputations which precede them: the Great Wall, Forbidden City, the Terracotta Army, the Summer Palace. Four days were spent with our partner school in Tangshan, sampling Chinese education and enjoying a day in the family home, before an overnight stay (newly to this year’s itinerary) in Shanghai. The economic and political realities of modern China were evident in the smog and in the surveillance state encountered in Tiananmen Square, a moving experience starting with a visit to Mao’s tomb. The thoughts of one parent were shared by all: ‘she had a fantastic time and the memories of it will stay with her forever’.
