Educating Rita

Educating Rita

Last week saw two amazing performances of Willy Russell’s sparkling but thought-provoking comedy, Educating Rita, in the Studio Theatre. In the show the wide-eyed, naïve thirst of Rita for an education, and her relentless demand for it, are both an inspiration and a reproach to the tired, cynical, burnt out university lecturer, Frank. They are only the two actors in this full-length play, and Rosie Collier as Rita and Thomas Dickson as Frank (Lower Sixth and Year 11 students respectively) bought the characters so vividly to life that the second night gave rise to a spontaneous standing ovation.  Clever direction and a perfectly judged set made this small-scale production a huge success.
