First XV retain The Metcalfe Cup

Our first XV kicked off the rugby season in style with a convincing win over Durham School in this year’s Metcalfe Cup.

Hundreds of spectators turned out to support the teams at the annual fixture, which took place at Kingston Park, home of Newcastle Falcons.

The match kicked off at 10.55am and saw RGS take an early lead with a Schmidt try. A strong team performance over the 80 minutes resulted in a 45-19 win for the team, with tries coming from Peach, Venerus (2), Summerfield, Byatt and Captain, Brantingham. Blackett reliably added the extras.

Speaking about the result, Master I/c Rugby, Andy Watt, said: “It was a great, all-round performance against a strong Durham side and sets us up nicely for the start of the season.”
