Friends of RGS Autumn Walk

Friends of RGS Autumn Walk

The Friends of RGS invite you to join them on their first walk of the new academic year on Saturday 12th October.

The Autumn walk will see the group head north to the Cheviots and take in the spectacular scenery of the England / Scotland border.

There are three options available on the day to suit walkers of all abilities:

Option 1: West Newton via Hill Forts to Hethpool, within tranquil College Valley, to pick up St. Cuthbert’s Way, going easterly skirting Yeavering Bell, by Tom Tallon’s Crag, and over Gain’s Law and Coldberry Hill, down through Wooler Common to Wooler High Street. (about 6-7 hours & roughly 12~13 miles)

Option 2: Old Yeavering to Torleehouse, joining St. Cuthbert’s Way, rounding Yeavering Bell eastwards, thence on the same trail as Option 1 to Wooler. (about 5-6 hours & roughly 7 miles)

Option 3: Wooler town and environs. Although a small market town, on a bright day, Wooler has the charm for a quiet day out. Enjoy an abundance of inns and cafes for a leisurely lunch and afternoon teas, then take up a short, moderate stroll through Wooler Common, a nature preserve, and into the surrounding hills, up Humbleton Hill for panoramic views from its Iron Age fort ramparts of borderland hills and plains. (about 2-3 hours & 4miles)
