ICYMI - Year 5 girls crowned HMC athletics champions

Yet more fantastic results to bring you from our very talented Junior School students as they competed in the biggest  The Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) athletics finals in June.

There were fantastic performances from all of the RGS athletes competing in their individual disciplines and none more than the combined performance from the girls in Year 5 which saw them crowned HMC U10 girls champions.

The title, is yet more success for the girls who have dominated in all sports not just in the North East, but also in national competitions up and down the country.

There were two individual titles, one for Laura Cottee in the 200m and one for Naomi Parker in the high jump. Laura's sister Jessica also ended up on the podium, picking up 3rd in the 80m and another 3rd place for Ellen Lowrie, this time in the long jump as well as a gritty 2nd for Olivia Kilburn in the 800m. To top off these wonderful performances, the relay team of the Cottee sisters, Naomi Parker and Jessie Combe left the competition for dust as they cantered down the home straight to take the title.

Other highlights from the meet included individual titles for Alexander Searro (Year 4) in the 80m, Alex Nice (Year 4) in the cricket ball throw, Willow Morris (Year 6) in the 800m and Dan Stephenson (Year 6) in the high jump.

There were also a number of podium places including Amali Morgan (Year 4), 3rd in the 200m, Sam Wardle (Year 4), 2nd in the high jump, the U9 relay squad who finished 3rd, Ciara Boaden (Year 6), 2nd in the 100m and Eloise Longstaff (Year 6), 3rd in the high jump.
