Louis in Lord of the Flies

Louis in Lord of the Flies

Louis Swanepoel was one of 16 boys (out of over 400!) from the North East to be selected to perform in a ballet/contemporary dance production of William Golding’s chilling novel Lord of the Flies. Louis trained for up to eight hours a day and performed at the Theatre Royal alongside a cast of professional male dancers between November 5th and November 8th. This is truly a fantastic achievement, especially as Louis had never danced before! It looks like this may become a long-term passion for him as he looks back on his experience as a mixture of drama, grease paint, music, movement and fun! The production received rave reviews:

"The cast are faultless, but so are the ensemble, and for that reason they deserve a final roll call. So well done to Ruben Copley, Joe Derbyshire, Finlay Murray, Sam Carruthers, Amonik Melaco, Louis Swanepoel, Carl Hughes, Jack Hindmarch, Nathan Denton, Ciaran Oakley, Marcel Li Ping, Andrew Davison, Andrew Ashton, Robin Larkin, John Hansford and Joseph Wright
You did everyone proud – not least yourselves"   The Chronicle
"Extraordinary. You are simply gripped by the power and emotion of the storytelling"  Daily Telegraph

"The great accomplishment of the production is its seamless integration of amateur and professional impressive achievement"  The Guardian
