Marcus Sedgwick Visits RGS

On Tuesday 14th October Year 7 and 8 students were visited by the author Marcus Sedgwick.  After an enthusiastic introduction by Millie Robson he told us about himself and what it is like to be a writer. We then had a virtual tour inside his writing shed to picking out objects that looked interesting, each object triggering a link to the inspiration behind one of his books. A picture of a kitten playing with a ball of wool related to a vampire story from the book My Swordhand is Singing. We also heard how the number 354 on the wall was of particular significance to him, and its coincidental trail through his latest novel, the psychological thriller She Is Not Invisible. There was a big rush of students keen to get their hands on his books afterwards, an indication, if one was necessary, that talks from talented and inspirational authors are an excellent tool for stimulating student’s imaginations and encouraging reading.
