Megan Meets Prince Charles – and talks iPads!

The story behind the pictures:
During summer 2014, I undertook a 4 week project with NCS (National Citizen Service), during which I worked in a homeless shelter, cooking, gardening, painting and decorating and just generally chatting to the residents. As I completed this to an apparently impressive standard, I was asked to join the NCS Youth Board. The Youth Board is comprised of 12 other NCS 'graduates' around the country. The event was divided into different sections - I was placed in the official press room. Part of this project was to demonstrate to the ‘VIP visitor’ what NCS was all about, and to do this, we set up an intergenerational workshop; whereby myself and 4 other team members taught elderly residents (who had travelled from a nearby care home) how to use iPads and devices of the same calibre. The residents had expressed an interest in wanting to learn about online shopping and Google street view - they were even keen to learn the 'basics' such as how to take a photograph. One week before the event, we were told that the VIP visitor was Prince Charles, and were instructed on protocol and how the event would work. On the day, I taught an elderly lady how to use an iPad, Prince Charles and Amir Khan (the boxer), were in the room also. Prince Charles sat down next to me (as I was instructed he would do) and he asked me some questions regarding NCS and less relevantly, iPads!
