Megan picked for international game

Year 10 student, Megan Cottee, has impressed the England Hockey selectors in recent months to be picked for the under 16 squad to face Ulster in May.

Megan was selected for the England under 16 training squad for the 2017/18 season after impressing at the Futures competition with her team, Pennine Pumas, in August 2017. Since then, Megan has been attending regular national training camps alongside her high performance centre training.

Megan's selection for the Ulster games will be the first time in RGS history that a girl will win an England Hockey cap.

The three-match series, at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, will aid selectors in their selection process for the squad that will take on Germany in a test series as well as the 4 Nations tournament later this summer.

Director of Sport, Angela Ponton said,

"We are very proud of Megan earning selection to the squad who will face Ulster in May.

"Megan is a credit to the school and her hard work and determination has well and truly paid off.

"I can't wait to see her on the field in that England vest."

In September, Megan was presented with her England vest by Olympic Gold medallist and former Great Britain and England hockey captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh when she visited the school. Megan will be hoping her time with Kate will inspire her to vixtory with the England team.
