My Day with National Youth Orchestra (NYO)

My Day with National Youth Orchestra (NYO)

Yesterday (30th March 2015) I travelled to Durham to take part in the National Youth Orchestra Inspire Day, in which children of all ages with skills and an enthusiasm for music playing gathered together to experience what it is like to be in the National Youth Orchestra. The day was filled with fun activities throughout. Before we began any music playing, we took part in a body warm-up to help prepare us for the practices. Firstly, everyone was broken up into sectionals (in my case, all of the 2nd violins) to practise. After that, all the strings rehearsed together in the main hall with Kyra Humphreys, the strings tutor of the orchestra. Finally, the entire orchestra united as one for the final rehearsal, conducted by Duncan Ward. To top it off, there was a final performance to our friends and family of the pieces we had rehearsed. Overall, it was an exciting and incredible day!
