Pablo wins national poetry award

Year 5 student Pablo Shenton-Pareja has won a national poetry competition for his poem Fairtrade Chocolate

Pablo wrote the poem for the Divine Chocolate National Poetry Competition and his poem was selected by a panel of judges (including bestselling children’s author Caroline Lawrence) in the 7-11 year olds category. The judges particularly loved the imagery he used and felt it really stood out.

Fairtrade Chocolate

Fairtrade chocolate,
So divine,
From a bean growing,
Under sunshine.
Grown by farmers with tender care
With Fairetrade they get a better share.
Incan gold,
The drink of kings,
Mixed with chilli and other things,
To make them strong,
To make them fight,
To beat the terrors of the night.
Fairtrade chocolate,
So divine before, it’s yours it’s mine,
Delicious treats every day,
Three cheers for Fairtrade,

Hip, hip, hooray!

A huge well done to Pablo and we look forward to seeing more of his literacy skills in the next school year.
