RGS Sports Awards Evening

RGS Sports Awards Evening

Last week, the RGS Games Department hosted the inaugural RGS Sports Awards:  a celebration of sporting achievement at the RGS throughout the 2014/15 hockey and netball season. During two separate evenings, the Miller Theatre played host to an audience of parents and students, some of whom were worthy recipients of awards for showing outstanding commitment to their sports teams, consistent improvement and exceptional sporting ability.

The week kicked off with the Junior Awards Evening which was held on Monday 23rd March. Guest speaker Leah Kennedy talked to the audience about her experience captaining the North East’s only Netball Superleague Team, Team Northumbria. The Senior Awards took place on Friday 27th March and this time Gareth Weaver-Tyler, Performance Hockey Coach at Durham University, addressed the audience and offered his valuable perspective as a successful National and Premier League Hockey Coach.

Both evenings were a great success and enjoyed by all who were in attendance. Special thanks to both guest speakers, and congratulations to all those students who received awards, as well as all the girls who have represented a hockey or netball team this year! In particular, well done to Miss Smith for her hard work organising two wonderful evenings of celebration!
