RGS named region's best school

RGS has been named as the North East independent secondary school of the year in Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018, which is published this Sunday, 26th November.

RGS retained its national rank of 62nd following strong A Level and GCSE results this summer, which saw an increase in A*/A at GCSE, rising from 81.9% in 2016 to 83.8%.

Editor of Parent Power Alastair McCall said,

“RGS is the academic independent school of choice across the North East combining outstanding results with great facilities.

“Sport is exceptionally strong as is music and the arts which ensure this is no exam factory, but rather a school that turns out well-rounded and well-educated individuals.”
Parent Power is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country’s best schools, identifying the 2000 highest-achieving schools in the UK. Now in its 25th edition, Parent Power enables parents to compare performance of schools in the same town, local authority or nationally.
Headmaster John Fern was delighted to hear the news. He said,
“The whole school community thoroughly deserve this recognition for all of their hard work. It is particularly pleasing to see the breadth of the opportunities at the school acknowledged and not just our excellent exam results.
Whilst our love of learning and ambition to succeed do lead to superb results, there is so much more to the RGS. We pride ourselves in giving every individual the freedom to learn, develop and be themselves.”
The Parent Power accolade for the RGS Senior School follows the good news released last week that the RGS Junior School was ranked 8th in the Parent Power’s top 100  independent preparatory schools in England.
