Spelling Bee Success

Spelling Bee Success

Nerves were running high for pupils and teachers alike as our brave Year 7 pupils –  Alex Dent (German), Mikey Lawlor (German) and Daniel Partleton (French) – took to the stage to test their spelling prowess in the space of just one minute. Following on from their success at the regional final, the three Year 7 students represented the RGS at the national competition on 4 July 2014 in Cambridge for this year’s final of the Foreign Languages Spelling Bee.

During the first round the tough competition posed by the other schools was obvious; however, all of them gave their very best. Finally, competitors for the final round were revealed with Alex having secured one of the four places with another minute ahead of him which eventually gained him third place overall. An astounding achievement!

We hope to continue this success story with the new Year 7 cohort in 2014-15 as it is an exciting event both for candidates as well as for the audience.
