Subsea team reach national finals

A group of Year 9 students recently took part in the Subsea UK STEM Challenge, a national competition that sees teams compete in a design and make challenge for marine industries.

The North East regional finals were held at Newcastle University with our teams competing against Newcastle High School for Girls, Churchill Community College, Walker Technology College and Excelsior Academy.

The competition saw teams work with engineers from SMD and Bel Valves throughout the day on a number of tasks including creativity, problem solving, design, robot construction, coding, marketing and delivered a verbal presentation.

One of our teams stole the show with a technically detailed and confident verbal presentation and were crowned winners. They'll now progress to the national finals in Aberdeen where they'll face teams from five other regions.
