TONY PARRAMAN VISITS RGS

TONY PARRAMAN VISITS RGS

On Tuesday 13th October Tony Parraman, the Head of Sponsor Liaison for the Bloodhound SSC Project, came to RGS and gave an inspiring talk about the global engineering adventure, which is aiming to set a 1000mph world land speed record.
Tony spoke to approximately 300 students from years 9 to 13 about the project, including details about how it was conceived and how it is being realised; from securing sponsorship deals, car design and testing, to the impact of the project on the local infrastructure and economy in the Hakskeen Pan, a region in the very North Western corner of South Africa where the record is to be attempted.
After the talk, Tony then visited the Physics and Technology departments to take part in the F1 in Schools Club which, this year, has 65 students participating in it. At the Club he talked to individual teams of students, helping them explore and the science, technology, engineering and mathematics involved in their work. He was delighted to hear that many RGS students are choosing to study engineering at university.
To show our support of the project, the physics department has put the School’s name on the fin of the car.
