The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew

The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew

Robert Bolt is best known as the writer of that great play (and film) about Sir Thomas More and Henry VIII, A Man for all Seasons. But he also wrote a sparkling piece for children, The Thwarting of  Baron Bolligrew. Originally conceived for an adult cast performing to children, it's now a popular piece for children to perform themselves. But it's a challenging, full-length play and tough to get on stage – particularly if, as our Year 8 cast did, you insist on doing it from scratch in a week! The cast rose to the challenge magnificently. There was magic, wickedness, heroism – and knights in armour playing musical bumps! It was a technical as well as dramatic tour de force performed, like Betrayal, the night before and on the day of RGS Day. A great achievement.
