Year 7 Spelling Bee Competition

Year 7 Spelling Bee Competition

The entire Year 7 took part in the initial round of the Year 7 Spelling Bee competition in both French and German and at school level more than 7000 students across the North East took part in this initial round. Each language class had their own competitions to find winners to represent the class before going on to compete against each other in order to win a place at the regional final. This took place this week at Newcastle University and the competition was fierce. All of our students did incredibly well and the speed at which they could spell out so many words accurately within a minute was very impressive and the other schools were clearly amazed by our students’ abilities.  For French, there were a lot more competitors at regional level however we did tremendously well and came away with 4 medals and 2 cups. Both Sarika Nadkarni ( German) and Farah Yossry ( French) came 3rd overall and Millie Ireland –Carson ( French) and Lucy Thompson ( German) both won the 1st place overall in the NE. All four girls will go on to compete in the national round in either French or German at Cambridge University in July and we wish them every success.
