Yichen crowned British Champion

New Junior School student, Yichen Han (Year 5), has had a busy summer impressing everyone on the chess circuit, taking part in a number of tournaments including the British Championships.

Yichen's first event was the Delancey UK Chess Challenge: Northern Gigafinal 2017 in Manchester. He was very impressive scoring 6 out of 6 to named the tournament winner.

Next up was the 104th British Championships held in Llandudno. Yichen competed in the under 11 section, a age group he still has another two years of competing in. Yichen was superb, scoring an unbeatable 7 out of 7 to be crowned British Champion.

Yichen's success continued at the Delancey UK Chess Challenge: Terafinal 2017 in Daventry. Impressive again, Yichen scored 4.5 out of 6 in a field where the majority of his competitors were much older than him. Not only did Yichen achieve the number five spot, he also scooped the best under 11 player award, with organisers suggesting it was the best result of an under 9 competitor in the history of the event.

Yichen is currently out in Romania competing at the European Championships. We look forward to hearing all about his fortunes at this event on his return.
