Young Analyst Winners!

Young Analyst Winners!

Three Lower Sixth Chemistry students – Finlay Gerrand, Ammu Menon and Ricardo Williams took part in the Regional Heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Young Analyst Competition on 3rd March at Northumbria University. They were asked to complete three challenging tasks:

1. EDTA titration to determine Ca ion concentration.
2. Turbidimetric measurement of sulphate (VI) ion concentration.
3. Flame photometry determination of Na ion concentration.

Due to the accuracy of their analysis, the RGS team were announced the winners, an excellent result! Depending on the scores of the other regional finals this will determine whether or not our team make the National Final in June – fingers crossed!
