NOVO Magazine
Welcome to NOVO, the RGS Newcastle student magazine. Made by students, for students.
For 140 years, NOVO has recorded the life of RGS through the voices of its students. Since the first edition of The Novocastrian was published in 1885, generations of students have used its pages to share achievements, report events, express opinions, showcase creativity and capture the everyday moments that make school life memorable.
Today, that tradition continues through a magazine written, photographed, designed and shaped by students. Through PRESS (Photography, Reporting, Editorial and Studio Society), students take an active role in producing NOVO and developing skills in journalism, photography, editing, design and media production.
We hope NOVO gives you a glimpse into the creativity, achievements and spirit of the RGS in 2026.

From 140 years of NOVO history to backstage stories from Bugsy Malone, Volume 132 celebrates the people, ideas and achievements that make RGS unique. Featuring student leadership, robotics, art exhibitions, Neurodiversity Week, creative writing, photography and the launch of PRESS, this issue captures the energy, talent and spirit of school life in our 500th year.
In a world of endless scrolling and disappearing feeds, we still believe there is something special about a printed magazine. It gathers a year together, gives weight to ordinary moments and creates a lasting record that can be rediscovered years later. At the same time, NOVO is embracing new digital opportunities through online articles, photography, interviews and student-led media projects.
