Year 11 students at RGS Newcastle received outstanding GCSE grades for their first public exams, with 86% achieving grades 7-9 and over half the grades being at grade 9 level.

As expected following guidance from OFQUAL, results are higher than the most recent public exams in 2019 and below last year’s teacher assessed grades. 19 of the 137 students attained all grade 9s and a further 30 students achieved all grade 8 or 9.

Headmaster, Geoffrey Stanford, commented:

“Young people across the country have faced significant challenges during the preparation for this year’s GCSEs and these results are a tremendous reflection of the determination and commitment of our students at all levels of ability.

“Looking ahead, the rare positive of all the disruption has been the development of resilience and adaptability which will serve our students well as they go forward into the Sixth Form and beyond.”

“Meanwhile, thanks go to all our teachers for all their commitment and to parents for the support they have given their children behind the scenes over such a difficult period.”
