Design a Stained Glass window competition open to students

RGS Newcastle Design a Stained Glass Window Competition
Deadline 25th April 2022 – see Student Hub for application form

The Old Novocastrians’ Association is launching a “design a stained glass window” competition.

RGS is lucky to have a number of stained glass windows commemorating key points in our history; make sure you go and see them on display in our library.  To mark the 20th anniversary of co-education at RGS, we would like to commission a new stained glass window, inspired by designs from our students.  Making a new stained glass window is a complicated process, which starts with a collection of drawings to tell the story that the window will ultimately portray.

To enter, we would like RGS students to submit a drawing articulating what co-education means to you.  Remember, we don’t want the design to be just about girls, it needs to be about all students inclusively working and learning together in RGS.

Once you have designed your window, please email your design anytime to communications@rgs.newcastle.sch.uk no later than the 25th April 2022.

The designs will then be judged by the Old Novocastrians’ Association, and winning students’ entries incorporated into one final design for the window, to be created by local artist Maralyn O’Keefe.  The students selected as winners will also have the opportunity to learn the craft of stained glass window making, at Maralyn’s studio in Consett during the Summer Term and, most importantly, the window inspired by their ideas will be on display in the library for many future generations to see.

We are very grateful to the Old Novocastrians’ Association for funding this initiative.
