One of our Junior School students, Jay V, has been playing a vital role in keeping his community’s spirits high during lockdown by hosting his own radio show.

Eight-year-old Jay (3T) has become Spice FM’s youngest presenter with his Saturday morning show, It’s Your Boy Jay Jay ‘til Midday.

Your Boy Jay Jay - as he is Known on the radio - has thousands of listeners worldwide who tune in every Saturday from 11am to 12pm, during which time he takes music requests, as well as creating his own links to songs.

Jay, who decided to get into presenting after listening to his uncle on the radio each morning, uses his show as a way of staying in touch with friends and family and bringing everyone together.

He said: “The best thing about being a radio presenter is being able to keep in touch with friends and family from around the world and playing songs that make them happy.

“I feel very proud of myself and it makes me feel happy that I have so many people supporting me during my show.”

Having appeared as a guest several time on his uncle’s show, Jay, who was offered his own show after growing in confidence, hopes to continue being on the radio as he gets older.

Speaking about Jay’s achievements, mum, Seema, said: “It fill us with pride that Jay has manged to find something that he loves to do whilst also helping lots of people to connect with one another at a time that does not allow for true social interaction.

“Jay has made connections with family and friends globally as they tune in to listen to him each week. It has been amazing to see his confidence grow with each show.”

Spice FM is an Asian community radio station that broadcasts in Newcastle and worldwide.

To listen to Your Boy Jay Jay tune into Spice Fm 98.8FM every Saturday at 11am.
