Singer Jesdina D was chosen to perform one of the most famous Christmas solos.

The talented Year 9 student was one of four children selected, out of 30 who applied from across the region, to sing The Snowman’s ‘Walking in the air’.

Jesdina performed with the Northern Sinfonia at Sage Gateshead - an international music centre which welcomes more than two million visitors each year.

The production involved lighting and a film screening and was watched by almost 1000 people.

Speaking about the experience, Jesdina, said: "I feel quite fortunate to have sung such a major part and I am so happy to have had an amazing experience of singing with an orchestra, especially in a venue as celebrated as the Sage."

Jesdina, who has been singing since the age of eight, is a member of the choir at Newcastle Cathedral, as well as the school choir.
