YET ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING YEAR FOR GCSES AT THE ROYAL GRAMMAR SCHOOL NEWCASTLE
Today we are proud to announce record breaking achievement in this year's GCSE results. Demonstrating our commitment to providing a rigorous and inspiring academic education, RGS has supported this year’s cohort of 146 Year 11 students who sat 1,497 GCSE exams across 21 different subjects.
RGS’s Year 11 students have achieved stunning results:
86% grades 7-9 (equivalent to A-A*),
70% grades 8-9 (equivalent to A*) and
44% at the highest possible grade 9.
Notably, RGS has 1% of the students in the UK who achieved all 9s (with 15 students attained straight grade 9s in all subjects). A total of 57 students achieved a remarkable set of 11 GCSEs and almost one half of grades were the highest possible achievable grade.
Perhaps most impressive of all, RGS GCSE results place it in the top 1% of schools in the country for its ‘value added’ for GCSEs.
This means that, as a cohort, RGS’s GCSE students outperformed already high expectations, with the school demonstrating its ability to stretch and challenge, including the very brightest. RGS’s ‘value added’ performance is based on data provided by ALPS, a British Assessment Bureau accredited student analysis.
Chris Quayle, RGS’s Deputy Head (Academic) who leads the school’s approach to learning and teaching, expressed his pride in the accomplishment:
“We are delighted to be in the top one percent of schools nationally for value added in GSCEs. We work hard to work with each individual student to ensure they are reaching their potential, and today’s results demonstrate how our students have surpassed even their highest expectations. RGS’s results not only reflect the dedication of our excellent teaching staff, but the strength and impact of our pastoral care and breadth of co-curricular offering which enables every student to be their very best self.
“Reflecting on the past year as a whole, all Year 11 students should be proud of what they have achieved as individually they have earned their success and have collectively secured yet another record-breaking year of RGS GCSE results.”
Geoffrey Stanford, Headmaster at RGS Newcastle, commented:
Geoffrey Stanford, RGS’s Headmaster added: “Our Year 11 students are truly phenomenal. Whilst RGS is renowned for stellar academic results, being in the top one percent of schools in the UK for value added reflects the combined efforts of our students, their parents and our staff.
“I want to thank every student for their hard work and dedication, our parents for their consistent support and our teaching staff for their unwavering belief in our young people. I want to remind all our students that this is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The future is bright, and we look forward to seeing what you all go on to accomplish.”
