RGS SIXTH FORM EXPANDS A-LEVEL OPTIONS

AT A TIME WHEN MANY STUDENTS ARE FINDING THAT A-LEVEL OPTIONS ARE BEING REDUCED, WE ARE DELIGHTED TO BE EXPANDING OURS. FROM SEPTEMBER 2026, OUR CURRICULUM WILL EXPAND TO 30 OPTIONS, INCLUDING EXCITING NEW ADDITIONS: BUSINESS STUDIES AND PHOTOGRAPHY.

These changes take the total number of Sixth Form qualifications offered at RGS to an impressive 30, making it the broadest range of A-Level options available in North East independent schools.

Headteacher of RGS Newcastle, Mr Stanford, said: "At a time when many schools are narrowing their curriculum, RGS Newcastle is proud to be expanding its offering, ensuring every student has access to enabling qualifications that support progression to the most competitive university courses.”

A-Level Business Studies will equip students with practical skills in strategy, marketing, finance and leadership, preparing them for careers in management, entrepreneurship, consultancy and beyond. The new A-Level will be delivered by a Business Studies specialist, as part of the RGS Economics Department, which already delivers outstanding results in A-Level Economics.

The department also leverages RGS’s network of over 10,000 alumni to support students, by delivering inspiring talks, sharing their knowledge and experience and offering practical insights to help shape students’ early careers.

A-Level Photography will offer students the opportunity to explore visual storytelling and technical mastery, building portfolios that reflect their unique perspectives and ambitions.  A-Level Photography will be led by RGS’s Art Department in stunning state-of-the-art facilities.  The teaching team are already well known for their exceptional talent, which sees Art students achieve some of the highest academic outcomes in the country.

Miss Enevoldson, Head of Sixth Form at RGS Newcastle, added: “The RGS Sixth Form is a truly special place to study beyond GCSE, offering exceptional breadth of opportunities both in and beyond the classroom.

“By introducing Business Studies and Photography, we are expanding those opportunities even further – helping every student find their passion, thrive academically and develop the confidence and character needed for life after school.”

These exciting developments will be showcased at our upcoming Open Morning on Saturday 15th November, where prospective students and families are invited to explore the full range of A-Level options, meet subject specialists and experience the energy and ambition that define RGS.
