Following a rigorous application and selection process, three Year 11 students - Dexter B‑L, Fraser H and George T – have now joined this prestigious cohort, having been recognised from thousands of students nationally as among the brightest young talents in the future of engineering.

Mr Warne, Head of Engineering, Design and Technology at RGS Newcastle, said: "Competition for Arkwright Engineering scholarships is always rigorous, and pupils have to go through arduous stages of testing and interviews.”

"The students now have the opportunity to join a small, nationally recognised cohort of pupils at the forefront of the next generation of engineers.”

“It is with pride that since 1991, the Engineering, Design and Technology department at RGS has supported students seeking to kick start their Engineering career through this prestigious scholarship."

The Scholarship provides access to a range of opportunities, including support for Engineering projects, mentoring and insight into industry pathways. These experiences will help both pupils continue to develop their skills and explore future opportunities in Engineering.

When asked how it felt to receive the award, George T said: “I am thrilled to have been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship. Navigating the interview process and developing a project proposal were fantastic challenges that provided a great preview of a career in engineering.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait to work with my mentor to take my ambitions to the next level.”

Dexter B-L added, “I am proud to have been awarded this scholarship. However, I see it as motivation rather than an achievement, as I still have more to prove as I follow my path.”
