WE ARE DELIGHTED TO RECEIVE THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF THE BRITISH COUNCIL'S PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD IN RECOGNITION OF OUR WORK TO BRING THE WORLD INTO THE CLASSROOM.
As RGS students mark the European Day of Languages (Thursday 26 September 2024), we are reflecting on our most recent achievement which acknowledges our work to foster an international dimension at the heart of academic, co-curricular and pastoral strands of life at RGS.
Throughout the last academic year, staff and students have helped cultivate an international dimension at RGS through multiple engaging activities. These include our highly popular Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Culture Week, as well as a multilingual performance by the cast during World Music Day, challenging ‘Eurocentrism’ in music.
Furthermore, the award highlights our commitment to engaging language assistants, fostering partnerships with schools and universities in Germany, Spain, and Sweden, and our new collaboration with a school in Marrakech, Morocco, through the Global School Alliance.
Ms K Sykes, Head of Modern Languages, said: "I am delighted and proud that the RGS has achieved this British Council award for its work on developing internationalism.
"This award affirms all of RGS students' and staff's hard work to develop and maintain strong links with other schools overseas, working on collaborative projects such as our EDI Culture Week, and help raise global awareness amongst the school community."
Reflecting on our application, the British Council commented: "This was an exciting application from the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at the school's submission, and, moving forward, the RGS is very well placed to apply for the Full International School Award. Please ensure all students and staff who were at the heart of this excellent submission are properly congratulated. Bravo!"
We look forward to sharing our continued international work over the coming academic year, with the aim of achieving Full Accreditation for the International School Award in 2025-26.
