AS PART OF OUR QUINCENTENARY CELEBRATIONS, OUR STUDENT-LED ECONOMICS SOCIETY (ECONSOC) IS PROUDLY LAUNCHING ITS BRAND NEW RGS ECONOMIST MAGAZINE - THE FIRST OF ITS KIND AT RGS NEWCASTLE.
Produced by members of ECONSOC and compiled by Sixth Form students Nisna, Suyash and Anoushka, the inaugural issue Macro Matters features a wide range of articles written by students across the school. Topics span from the impact of AI to the economics of Taylor Swift, showcasing how economic thinking applies to the world around us.
Mr Neil, Head of Economics, said: “This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the students’ curiosity, passion and drive. It’s inspiring to see economics being explored far beyond the classroom.”

The editorial team hopes this will be the first of many issues, encouraging more students to engage with economics through writing, discussion and debate.
“It was great to apply what we’ve learnt in lessons in a more creative and open way,” said co-editor Anoushka. “We could write freely and explore ideas we’re passionate about.”
“Economics touches every subject,” said Nisna. “It’s all about your interests and how you choose to explore them.”
Suyash added, “It was really interesting to explore topics like economic history and global economies - from China to Bolivia. The variety of articles in the magazine shows just how wide-ranging and relevant economics can be.”
ECONSOC meets most Fridays at first lunch in M202 and welcomes students from all year groups. Guest speakers, discussion topics and future editions of the RGS Economist are just a few of the exciting opportunities ahead.
