Old Novo Takes on Top BBC Job

OLD NOVOCASTRIAN RHODRI TALFAN DAVIES (ON 87–89) HAS BEEN APPOINTED INTERIM DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE BBC, TAKING UP THE ROLE ON 3 APRIL 2026.

Rhodri has built a distinguished career across the BBC, serving as Head of Regional Programmes at BBC West in Bristol from 1999 to 2001, overseeing television, online and local radio output across the region.

Following stints in commercial TV, he returned to the BBC in 2006 as Head of Strategy and Communications, before being appointed Director of BBC Cymru Wales in 2011.

He went on to become BBC Director of Nations in December 2020, taking responsibility for content and audiences across Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

Rhodri steps into the interim role following the resignation of Tim Davie in November 2025.
