Sixth Form Opportunities

SPECIALIST SIXTH FORM OPPORTUNITIES FOR SEPTEMBER 2026. RGS SIXTH FORM HAS OFFICIALLY OPENED APPLICATIONS FOR THE REECE FOUNDATION (STEM) BURSARY SCHEME, AND NEW FOR SEPTEMBER 2026, THE MUSIC AWARD SCHEME WHICH SUPPORTS ASPIRING YOUNG MUSICIANS.

Reece Foundation Bursary Scheme

The Reece Foundation is generously offering two means-tested bursaries for students who wish to study at RGS Sixth Form to pursue a career in engineering.

Established in 2007, the Reece Foundation is an independent charity which promotes engineering and manufacturing in the North East, whilst supporting the improvement of education in STEM subjects.

Students who will be completing their GCSEs in summer 2026 can apply for the bursaries, which aim to equip students with the skills and confidence to apply for university engineering courses.

Depending on financial eligibility, the scheme will provide up to 100% assistance with school fees at RGS Sixth Form, including school dinners and curriculum-associated school trips.

RGS Music Award

From September 2026, students taking A-Level Music can apply for the RGS Music Award. Open to both current Year 11 students and those joining RGS Sixth Form from other schools, the award recognises exceptional musical ability (Grade 5 or above), strong academic potential, and a commitment to developing musical talent.

Successful candidates will receive funding for instrumental lessons worth up to £800 per year for their two years of study at RGS Sixth Form.

Mr Stanford, Headmaster of RGS Newcastle, said: "These initiatives reflect our commitment to supporting talented and ambitious students, regardless of background. We are proud to offer opportunities that nurture excellence in music and STEM subjects, helping our aspirational young people to fulfil their dream careers and exciting futures."

Applications for these schemes follow the addition of Business Studies and Photography to our Sixth Form options, bringing the total to 30 A-Level subjects – the widest range offered by any North East independent school.

Miss Enevoldson, Head of Sixth Form, added: "Following our recent announcement of additional Business Studies and Photography A-Level subjects, these schemes further strengthen the breadth of opportunities available at RGS Sixth Form.

"The Music Award and Reece Foundation Bursary will enable students from across the region who are passionate about the arts and STEM to benefit from our exceptional teaching, tailored pastoral care, and vast co-curricular programme."
