Wellbeing @ RGS

Ensuring our students at RGS are happy and thriving is absolutely paramount to us, and Wellbeing is a central thread to all that we do here.

Childhood should be a joyous phase of anyone’s life and preserving childhood is the job of the adults in our school. That’s why mobile phones are not permitted in school, it’s why we use technology to support how we learn, not drive it; it’s why we maximise play and co-curricular opportunities.

Of course we aim to inspire our students academically and feed their imaginations and curiosity, and academic progress is important, but so is climbing trees, learning how to have a conversation over lunch, promoting kindness, making friends, finding out what your passions are and believing that the whole world is open to you.

We believe that feeling happy, safe, and supported, is fundamental to our students attaining their potential and developing into balanced and well-rounded young adults.

RGS awarded the 'Wellbeing Award for Schools'

We are so proud to have achieved the National Children's Bureau 'Wellbeing Award for Schools'

We understand that all of our students are unique and different, and we strive to treat them as individuals, aiming to tailor our care to meet their needs. We have a range of formal and informal pastoral systems operating side by side in our community, there to support the child and the wider family when required.

We are committed to promoting positive wellbeing, social and emotional skills, self-esteem and mental health to everyone in our community. Health and wellbeing are at the heart of what we do and, to show our commitment to this, have achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS) to demonstrate our continued desire to maintain our Wellbeing practises across the whole school community.

Meet Storm, the RGS Therapy Dog

In May 2024 we welcomed Storm, the RGS Therapy Dog.

Storm spends time with staff and students in both our Junior and Senior Schools on a weekly basis.

Storm is accredited by national charity Pets As Therapy (PAT), as temperament assessed, and she is accompanied in school by a qualified volunteer.  Storm is a much loved member of our community.
