Senior School House Music

Tuesday 8th November 2022

Soloists and House Ensembles will compete for the coveted 22-23 House Music Prize.  There will also be the notorious House Shout!
 
Tickets: Tickets are free but booking is essential.  Tickets will be available to book on Eventbrite 2 weeks before the event.

RGS Talks - Hope Virgo

Tuesday 1st November 2022

We are pleased to announce that we have a very special speaker delivering a virtual talk to RGS parents, at 6.30pm to 7.30pm, on Tuesday the 1st of November.  I encourage all RGS parents to join the session to discuss eating disorders and exercise addiction, hosted by author and multi award winning campaigner Hope Virgo.  Our guest will share her own journey to beat anorexia and practical tips on how to prevent eating disorders and support your loved ones, and will take any questions from RGS parents.  To join the event please register here, and we will send a link to the Teams meeting.

Founder's Service

Having reinstated the Founder’s Service in recent years as a private event for new RGS Y7 families, we are delighted to extend an invitation to our wider community for this year’s Service.  The very special event will reflect on the almost 500 year history of the school and the indelible impact of ONs on the world.

ONA 96th Newcastle Dinner

Friday 14th October 2022

In the 60th anniversary year of the establishment of the RGS Economics Department, we are excited to host the ultimate reunion of RGS economists!  Our guest speaker will be RGS's former Head of Economics, Geoff Riley (staff 88-00).  This will be a marvellous chance to catch up with Geoff and listen to his fascinating story.
 
Tickets: £55 (£45 for Old Novos aged 25 or under).

Timing: 6.15pm drinks for 7pm dinner to 11pm

RGS History Walk

Tuesday 6th September 2022

David Goldwater (Old Novo 51-62) will be our guide to visit the six historic sites of RGS plus an interlude at the 'Discovery Museum' to see the 1600 Royal Charter.  The walk will begin and end at RGS, Eskdale Terrace, where on our return afternoon tea will also be served.  
 
Tickets: We respectfully ask for an optional £20 per person donation to the RGS Bursary Campaign (£10 for Old Novos aged 25 or under)

RGS Summer Garden Party - SOLD OUT

Saturday 2nd July 2022

We are delighted that after two years of absence the (long awaited!) RGS Summer Garden Party is returning on the evening of RGS Day (bookable here).  This is a relaxed night of celebration for RGS parents, current and former staff and Old Novos.  There will be drinks served on the Rugby Pitch in the early evening sun, with acoustic performances by students.  In the marquee middle Eastern sharing platters will be served, the RGS Ceilidh band will make its debut followed by music from our resident DJ Mr James Miller.  There will be various fun and fundraising for the RGS Bursary Campaign, and a cash/card bar, we promise an evening of joy and friendship.

Skylight

RGS Drama presents Skylight, by David Hare, which first premiered 20 years ago, is about both the state of the heart and the state of the nation.

Kyra (Hannah Stobart) used to work for, and sleep with, Tom (Joe Wright), a successful restaurateur. But when his wife discovered the affair, Kyra left and they haven't seen each other since.

Friends of RGS Summer Walk to Hadrian's Wall

'Walking  the Wall'
The Friends of RGS is an independently run group made up of current and former parents, Old Novos and wider friends, with all new walkers warmly welcomed.

The group aims to arrange three walks per year, with at least two options on the day to suit, to a location in Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Durham or The Lake District.

The Summer's Walk is Hadrian's Wall 1900th Anniversary Walk: The Sill via Vindolanda, Housesteads and Sycamore Gap Hadrian's Wall Circular Walk.

The competition, which is fiercely contested between the four school Houses, includes performances from a wide spectrum, all reflecting the diversity of the dance that is enjoyed at the RGS.
