RGS Festival

For the wise…, every day is a festival.’ (Plutarch)

Here at school, we certainly try to embrace this philosophy and celebrate the work – and play – of our students. We have reimagined our traditional annual RGS Day into a colour-injected, soul-filling and family friendly festival extravaganza and would like you to join us in a glorious culmination of all that we are and do at this year’s new RGS Festival, a living, breathing Annual Review

We want to celebrate the achievements of all, with a range of student showcasing and family activities pirouetting around the central marquee and a new set of student awards, showing you ‘There’s More to Life at RGS.’  No festival would be complete without Mr Bulch's tea tent and there’ll be feasting aplenty, with picnics and pop-ups to tempt you throughout the day. Rain? We’ll don a plastic poncho, put up our umbrellas and embrace the Geordie summer.

All students and staff are expected to be present, with all our extended RGS family very welcome and encouraged to join us.

Timings of what's happening where:

This year we have a Brand NEW Prize Giving format, all festival activity will stop at 12pm midday for awards to be announced on Stage 1 on the main field.

Each year group, from Y3 to Y13 will receive four awards aligning to each of our school values

GEt your tokens in advance so you're all set to enjoy the fun on the day!

Most of our activities on the day are cash-less, instead you can join activities using pre-paid tokens.  Each token value is £1 and can be exchanged on the day of the festival for activities like our giant inflatable assault course, glitter tattoo stations, a drink or cake from Barrie’s tent or to even throw a wet sponge at the teachers! Tokens purchased by ParentPay can be collected from RGS main reception from 26th June or can also be bought on the day itself. PRE-ORDER SPECIAL OFFER. Ordered before the 18th of June and for every £10 you will receive 2 free tokens!

A number of external food suppliers will not take part in the voucher system on the day and payment can be made with card or cash. This includes ice-cream, crepes and pizza.

Something for everyone

From Barrie's Tea Tent to Deepa's Indian Kitchen, we hope you'll find something to tickle your tastebuds and enjoy!

Tea will be available from the marquee, one of our wonderful Junior School parents is also running an Indian food stall, plus we have a Crepe stall and ice cream van.  If you prefer, bring a picnic, although please remember we are a nut free site! Deck chairs and picnic blankets are super welcome!

What type of STALLS AND PLAY ZONES can you expect?

We have a fantastic array of activities planned, all centred around the main rugby pitch.  There will be inflatable assault courses, a variety of our Junior School Fayre stalls, a Robotics and Computer Science Expo, a CCF zone with paintballing and more challenging assault courses, sports’ challenges and of course the day would not be complete without the opportunity to throw a wet sponge at a teacher or two!

Our amazing student performers also have a timed schedule of performances to showcase their hard work, including music, choir, drama, dance and gymnastic displays.  We have a buddy zone where students joining us in September can meet, friendship seats where students can chat with our senior Old Novos or our neighbours from Percy Hedley school and our Threadaware stall ready for parents to stock up on spare kit!

How can you get involved?

There are various ways to get involved ahead of and on the big day itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated, including supporting your children by coming along to enjoy the day, actively or sprawled on a deckchair – the choice is yours!

Any parents able to help preparing for the event, helping to set up on the Friday or Saturday morning, or pack down on Saturday afternoon, we’d really love your support, please let us know at development@rgs.newcastle.sch.uk
