Domestic Assistant (20 hours/week)

We seek to appoint a professional, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Domestic Services team in providing high quality, professional and responsive cleaning services to the Junior and Senior Schools.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our multi-disciplined facilities team which consists of four caretakers, two maintenance staff, three grounds staff and twenty-two domestic staff. The Domestic Assistant will report to the Domestic supervisor who in turn, reports to the Head of Facilities and Estates.

Hours: This is a permanent, all year-round role. Normal hours of work are 4.00pm-8.00pm (20 hours a week) on school days during term time. During the school holidays, the Domestic Assistant will work between 7.00am and 11.00am (20 hours per week). Some work outside these hours, including weekends, may be required in connection with special school events.

Salary:  Based on £23,883 gross per annum (Full time equivalent for a 37.5 hour working week). The actual salary for 20 hours per week will be £12,737gross per annum, which is equivalent to £12.21 per hour. Salaries are paid in twelve equal monthly instalments.

Network Manager

Required as soon as possible 

We seek to appoint a Network Manager to work within the Information and Digital Technology (IDT) department at this busy and high achieving school. The Network manager is responsible to the Head of Digital Strategy. The role will have responsibility for leading the IT Service Helpdesk, being line manager to IT support technicians, whilst securely managing the RGS network and cloud infrastructure. 

Over the past four years, the IDT department at RGS has led the school through an exciting digital transformation, deploying over 1300 laptops to students and fulfilling the vision of putting a device in the hands of every child. Students in senior school have devices on a one-to-one basis, and technology now plays a significant role in the day-to-day life of teaching and learning at RGS.  This transformation has included migrating services to cloud environments including device management.

Hours: As this is a senior role, the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly to achieve the objectives of the Network Manager role. The normal core working hours for the role will be 37.5 hours per week, 8.30am – 4.30pm (7.5 hours per day), Monday to Friday, unless the Network Manager is involved in any specific role related duties, or emergency responses which may occur outside of the normal working hours.

Salary: The salary will be in the range of 45k-50k gross per annum, and the actual salary will be chosen to reflect the experience and skills offered by the successful candidate.

External Relations Administrator (Part Time, Fixed Term)

The External Relations Team at RGS is responsible for supporting the school to communicate with, engage and motivate a broad range of stakeholders.  This includes:

  • Leading the school’s marketing activities, to inspire prospective parents to consider RGS Newcastle.
  • Delivering high quality and engaging communications content, through our website and social media channels, PR coverage, major publications as well as regular communications and events with current parents and internal staff.
  • Maintaining contact with our c10,000 alumni of Old Novocastrians, former staff and former parents, through valued and engaging events and publications, and in particular the RGS Archive; and
  • Galvanise the whole RGS community to support ‘RGS Gives’ through a wide range of inspiring fundraising activities appropriate to the variety of motivations of different supporters.

We are looking for an Administrator (fixed term) who will have a super varied role and we can promise almost every day will be different!  You’ll be thanking and feeding back to our donors, reconciling income, taking event bookings and will enjoy life supporting colleagues in our busy and creative team.

Hours: The working hours will be part time, 30 hours per week, all year round. Days of work can be agreed with the successful candidate, but it is expected that the pattern will be 4 days of 7.5 hours. Fixed term until 10th July 2026. 

Salary: The salary will be c.£26k gross per annum (full time equivalent), c.£21k gross per annum for 30 hours per week. The salary for the fixed term period is c.£18k.

Head Chef (Full Time)

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented Head Chef to join our Catering Services team in providing a high quality, professional and responsive catering service to the Junior and Senior Schools and staff. The Head Chef will report to the Head of Catering Services.

Service is cafeteria style and offers a wide choice including soup, a choice of hot and cold main courses and puddings, a vegetarian dish, open sandwiches, and salad meals. 

The team prepare around 1,500 meals each day as well as preparing a number of formal dinners over the academic year for between 30 and 120 guests. Very little frozen food is used and the team, working together, takes great pride in producing interesting and healthy food whilst catering for a wide variety of dietary requirements.

This is a full time, term time only and permanent position with the school. Except for a few days at the start and end of each main School holiday (Summer, Christmas and Easter) the Head Chef will not be expected to attend for work during the students’ school holidays or during the week of each half term.

Normal Working Hours- In return for this paid holiday entitlement, the staff are expected to display some flexibility over hours worked during term time. Normal hours of work are 7am-3pm, (40 hours per week) but this is often extended so that a tea can be provided at various events and meetings for parents and/or visitors.

Weekend Working Hours- A Head Chef can expect to work most Saturdays during term time, usually 3-4 hours. The earliest start time will generally be 10am and the latest finish time will generally be 5.15pm. Further information will be shared with candidates at interview. The requirement is to provide either a lunch or tea for sports fixtures.  For these extra hours, pay will be at the normal overtime rate (time x 1.5).

Evening Working Hours- There are about 20 special evening events throughout the year, which may consist of either a formal meal or a buffet or providing coffee and biscuits during the interval of a concert.

Salary: The salary for this post will be c34k gross per annum (based on a 40-hour working week). As the role is term time only + 4 staff days, the actual salary will be c27k.
