Teaching Staff Vacancies

Deputy Head (Co-Curriculum) RGS Newcastle

Deputy Head (Co-Curriculum)

Required from September 2025 or January 2026

Following the appointment of Andrew McBride (current postholder) to Headmaster at Rossall School, we are looking for an inspiring and forward-thinking individual to continue to develop the Co-Curricular programme at RGS Newcastle.

The RGS has a reputation for excellence across both academic and co-curricular activities, and our students benefit from the wide range of opportunities they can enjoy. We are equally dedicated to our pastoral care as we believe that happy children learn best.  We encourage our students to be intellectually curious, to think creatively and to challenge themselves in everything they undertake. We believe that core to a well-rounded education is a diverse, challenging and fun co-curricular programme.

The post of Deputy Head (Co-Curriculum) signals the high priority we place on this aspect of life at RGS.  The breadth of co-curricular activities available is already immense and delivered by dedicated teaching and support staff.  The successful candidate will join our dynamic Senior Leadership Team to develop our Co-Curricular programme yet further, ensuring that the opportunities available are of consistently high quality and that participation is high. Every student in the school should have the opportunity to engage in activities that develop team and leadership skills, build confidence, explore new hobbies and have fun with contemporaries.

The right candidate will also actively support the determination of the school to raise aspiration and attainment for bright children across the North East, through our established bursary and partnership programmes.

The salary offered will be commensurate with the seniority of the role.

For further details candidates are advised to read the full job information pack.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to email or to arrange a call with the Headmaster, Geoffrey Stanford, at hm@rgs.newcastle.sch.uk or on 0191 281 5711. It may also be possible to organise the opportunity to visit the school prior to the end of the spring term.

Operational Staff Vacancies

Marketing and Admissions Lead

Required as soon as possible

RGS proudly attracts high calibre applicants from across the region for our finite number of school places.  From Hartlepool, Carlisle to Berwick (and anywhere in between) successful applicants are talented, socially diverse students, who all thrive in our fast-paced academic setting. Our Marketing and Admissions cycle is currently supported by a broad range of colleagues working in academic, pastoral and operational roles across the school.  Each give invaluable expertise but only dedicate part of their time to the recruitment of students; our only colleague solely dedicated to this function is our Head of Admissions.

Looking ahead to potentially more challenging times for admissions for all independent schools, we are investing in this function with this new role, in order to maintain both the academic calibre and broad social diversity of our school.  The postholder will provide a vital leadership role, both coordinating all marketing and admissions activities and colleagues involved, and providing new capacity, particularly needed in our admissions marketing.

We are seeking an experienced, confident and proactive team-player with strong organisational and interpersonal skills who is able to develop and maintain productive working relationships with all key stakeholders in particular colleagues, partners and prospective families. The postholder will prioritise relationships through the admissions journey, so that all applicants leave our process feeling it has been handled with humanity, transparency and the applicants’ wellbeing of the upmost priority.

Hours: 37.5 hours/week, 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday throughout the year + key admissions events.

Salary: In the range of 48k- 52k gross per annum. Actual salary will be dependent on skills and experience offered by the successful candidate
