SATS

2019 was the last year our pupils completed the SATs.  Whilst our outstanding results, consistently well above the national average (as demonstrated in the results depicted below), were an understandably tempting marketing tool, in our opinion they served little purpose beyond that.  In our endeavours to put the children at the front and centre of the decisions we make at RGS, we decided it was time to say goodbye to the ‘high-stakes’ SATS and replace them with a far more informative and child-centred assessment system for Maths and English, that starts as soon as children join the Junior School.

Our new system for tracking pupil progress, with a continued focus on high standards and academic excellence, is built around termly ‘low-stakes’ assessments in Maths in English.  The system is highly informative and rigorous, whilst also enabling us to deliver our wide and rich curriculum with no restrictions, and helping to preserve childhood for our pupils, for as long as possible.
