From September 2026, RGS Newcastle will introduce the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science into our Sixth Form curriculum.

The new BTEC provides a rigorous but applied pathway for students with a strong interest in sport and exercise science. It is equivalent to two A-Levels and at RGS will be studied alongside one other A-Level subject of choice, ensuring that students graduate with three qualifications, recognised by the most competitive universities and employers.

This new addition reflects our commitment to innovation, opportunity and excellence; it ensures that RGS Newcastle continues to meet the diverse needs of our pupils, equipping them not only with outstanding academic results but also with the practical skills and experiences that will serve them well in life beyond school.

Please see below a detailed Q&A guide, including the two-year timetable of units, to help you understand what this change means for students who wish to take this course in the future.  If you have any further questions, please do email us and we look forward to answering any queries about this exciting new development at RGS!
