RGS Newcastle is excited to announce a brand new Music Award, for students taking up A-Level Music from September 2026. The Music Award is open to both current Y11 RGS students, as well as young people from other schools considering joining RGS Sixth Form

Successful candidates for the music award will be able to demonstrate exceptional musical ability (at Grade 5 level on any instrument), the ability to read music notation and a strong commitment to developing their talent. They will also be predicted good academic grades at GCSE; and will be prepared to follow Music A-Level (alongside two other subjects of their choosing) that allow them to continue their musical studies alongside a broad academic curriculum.

The Music Award will fund instrumental music lessons, worth up to £800 per year, for the two years of their Sixth Form education. In addition, we would encourage students who are new to the school to consider applying for a means-tested bursary, through which up to 100% of school fees are available.

Offers of a Music Award will be made after audition and interview by the school, at which candidates will be expected to demonstrate their musical ability and commitment to pursuing music as a significant part of their education.
