At RGS, we are keen to develop partnerships throughout the region and beyond. We are currently working with schools, businesses and other local and national educational umbrella organisations to establish ways in which we can share our expertise, support and experience where it can make the greatest impact. To that end, we are also developing our CPD and training profile in areas where we have particular expertise.

We are currently working with 10 state senior schools on a maths project, taking students beyond the specifications, and providing them with a wider understanding of the subject. Teachers accompany their students in this ‘stretch and challenge’ project, and are provided with additional materials to continue the work in between meetings. Similarly, we are working with state junior schools in computing and coding projects, aimed at providing students and teachers with simple ideas to take students further into computing. Over the course of this academic year, we will have taken 500 students and their teachers through the computing session. In another school, we are helping the Senior Management Team to introduce a new subject into the curriculum – Classics. Students from the school come to the RGS on a weekly basis, and we are providing material, lessons and support for both the teacher and students, so that the subject will become a fully integrated part of the curriculum over time.

In other projects, a large number of our Sixth Form students are involved in helping local junior schools with additional reading work and helping some schools to establish a reading group that extends students beyond the curriculum, helping them to gain a real love of reading. Our students are also involved with sharing their aspirations with junior school students in the form of an hour long aspirational road show, at an important time in their development.

We are keen to talk to schools and other organisations, to look at ways in which we can add our support and expertise to projects in our region. Good collaboration will always benefit all involved, and in the projects we are working on currently, this is certainly the case
