Why we need your support

RGS Gives is our campaign to encourage the entire RGS community to give back to our homeland of Newcastle and broader North East. We believe in the infinite potential of our region, but need our community to galvanise behind our work to deliver social impact. Read below all of the ways that you can help today. There are ways for anyone and everyone to flex their philanthropic muscle and show that RGS Gives.

Donations of any size will be put to immediate good use. Not everyone has money to give, we understand that and cheerfully make the most of the talents, interests, knowledge and stories of our wider community. One of our bursary students recently said:

"We don't bring wealth to the school, but I bring hard work and will do my best."

Perhaps we could echo those sentiments. If you value being part of the RGS community, please read on below how you can help today.

We gratefully receive financial donations of any size, which we will put to immediate good use through the RGS Educational Trust. You are able to allow us to direct your donation to the greatest need, or choose one of our funds.

Here are some examples of what your support could achieve:

RGS Bursary Hardship Fund

Our hardship fund supports bursary families experiencing severe financial difficulty with non-fee costs, such as uniform, school trips and lunches.

£22 would fund a musically talented bursary student, a lesson with one of our specialist visiting music teachers.
£49.50 per month would give a bursary child free school lunches, for a year.
£60 could fund an RGS raincoat for a bursary child to travel to school.
£95 will buy an aspiring cricketer a set of cricket whites.
£98 would fund a bursary child’s new blazer when they join RGS.
£200 would pay for a bursary child on an overnight school trip with their peers.
£420 will support a bursary historian to attend the annual RGS battlefields tour.

RGS Bursaries

1 in 15 students attend RGS on a (strictly means-tested) bursary. We welcome donations of all sizes to help change the trajectory of a child's life.

£847 a month would fund a Junior School bursary place for a year.
£1,006 a month would fund a Senior School bursary place for a year.
£10,133 would fund a Junior School bursary place for a year.
£12,029 would fund a Senior School bursary place for a year.
£24,539 would fund a Sixth Form bursary student through their A-Levels.
£95,009 would fund an 11 year old bursary child through all 7 years of their education.
£600,000 would create a permanent endowment, from which we could fund one bursary each year in perpetuity.

RGS Partnerships

10,000 (and counting) students in local schools benefit from our partnerships projects, which deliver academic stretch and challenge.

£200 covers return transport for one school to an event hosted at RGS, from Swimming Sessions to Coding Clubs.
£300 would fund one Bright Sparks maths event: mornings of maths that take children beyond the confines of the regular syllabus.
£3,000 would fund a set of Sphero Robots and a charging pack, to inspire and motivate primary school children in STEM.
£60-£70,000 would fund a new specialist Partnerships Teacher for a year.

We are constantly looking to develop our school facilities to maintain our standard of excellence. There are various opportunities to support the fabric of our school, enhancing opportunities for students.

£2,000 would fund portable bleacher seating for use in our sports hall and main pitch.
£3,000 would fund a new electronic scoreboard for our home fixtures.
£10,000 would refurbish one of the original classrooms (we have 11 to update).
£12,000 would fund new hockey dugouts
£12,000 would fund a new sound system for the Main Hall.
£15,000 would fund a new AV system for the Main Hall.
£70,000 would fund a much needed upgrade to our heating system.
£250,000 would support the (sadly necessary) replacement of our hockey pitch.
